I wasn't really keeping up on the Star Wars: The Old Republic news, so I pretty much forgot about it. I happened to be listening to Polygamerous on Dec 19th when Syrana was on for the 100th episode and I heard them mention it went live that night. I visited the official site and one thing led to another and I had it purchased and downloading when I went to bed that night. It was installed and ready to go by the time I had a chance to play it the next night. From all of the MMO launches I've been through, this one was the smoothest. I had no problems getting in, connecting to a server, creating a character, or even playing until I logged out. Everything was smooth. Even when I started playing WoW in 2006 (about a year after it went live) I had more issues. Not a lot more, but more nonetheless.

I first went with the Smuggler class. I decided on Republic at first since I planned on joining a guild I saw a few Twitter friends talk about, No Sleep Till Kessel. I'll assume you know (or let you go to the main site and read) about the advanced classes and light and dark options your player gets. For my smuggler, I chose the advanced class of Gunslinger since I totally want to be the guy they show in the opening cinematic.

I started three other characters to sort of try everything, 2 Republic and 2 Empire. 1 female and 1 male each side and one of each class type overall. Each side has their own 4 classes, though they're named different, they have the same basic play style.

My Republic Smuggler (Gunslinger) is named Ludovicus. The name comes from one of my ancestors, my 3rd-great-grandfather on my mother's side. His middle name was Ludovicus, and I always thought it sounded cool. I decided, as I went, to play him as a sarcastic, but good-hearted, smuggler. He's pretty blunt, but I mostly choose “Light” options when my conversations come to that. Come to think of it, it's probably very close to the Han Solo-type personality, but that was not my original intention. He just has that look to him. I gave him sort of a 70s-pornstar look, mustache and all. I need to get some more screenshots.

My Republic Jedi Knight is named Rhodina. I just used the randomizer to pick her name. I haven't picked my advanced class yet. She's pretty evil. I pick mostly “dark” options when in conversations. She seems destined to fall into the dark side. I currently plan to use her a lot as my auction mule once I figure out the best way to do that. Or I'll make another character.

My first Empire is a Sith Inquisitor named Skarlett. She has also not chosen an advanced class, yet, but I plan on doing the Assassin since I always like having at least one character like that. She's also pretty evil, but she is a Sith, so it's pretty natural. Her race is Twi'lek, so she has those big “head tails” down her back.

My other Empire character is a Bounty Hunter named Sideshow. I was surprised that the name was still available, since it's usually gone. I made him a big hulking, bald Rattataki. Though, he's big and ruthless, he also a big softie in certain situations, so he is mostly “light.” He's only like level 7, but I think I'll like the class.

I plan more SW:TOR posts, so keep an eye out.

Welcome

We are a family of gamers. Mom (Darcy/Syrana) and Dad (Brian/Sideshow) have been gaming for as long as they can remember back when you only had a joystick to use and saved your games to cassette tapes.

They've been gaming together since they met in 2002. Sometime after 2006, they both started playing World of Warcraft and did that for many years. They started this blog, originally called Sideshow & Syrana which has now transitioned to the new Stay-At-Home Gamers site, while keeping all of the original content.

Starting in 2010, two more gamers came along (now known as Princess Boo and Mr. X) and they are now old enough where they both enjoy playing games and watching others play games. They are both excited to have others to watch them play their favorite games. Come along with us and let's enjoy these games together!
