do you like me-flickr-queenofsubtleAs our little “about” box says, we write about various things here.  World of Warcraft is generally the main focus, but it's not the only focus.

I suppose one could say I lack focus.

I mean, I advertise as a warlock blog, but when you look around… other than me being a warlock… there's a distinct lack of actual warlockyness goin' on.

Sure, I'm trying to change that, but I'm never going to be the ultimate warlock source of knowledge.

And I'm ok with that.

My focus has always come down to entertainment, really, when I think about it.  Some bloggers I know are able to maintain separate blogs for their various interests, whereas, I just put it all here.  I suspect the majority of our readers are WoW players.  We might even have some that are not, but like some of the various non-WoW postings found here.

But I'm curious to know about you, my dear readers, and what you do and/or don't like about what is presented here for you.

This doesn't mean I'm looking to do a huge overhaul to try and appease everyone, that just isn't possible.  But, with some feedback, it'll help me to continue delivering what you like.

Here are some points of consideration.  Please feel free to comment or email, as I'd love to hear from you!

  • How did you find/hear about us?
  • What made you want to subscribe to our RSS feed (if you have done so)?
  • Do you like the mix of topics, or do you/would you prefer more posts about [insert game/tag/category here]?
  • What don't you like and why?
  • Is there anything that would be more helpful to add on the sidebar? (Better blogroll categorization, different placement/order of items, top posts, resources, etc)
  • And… anything else you'd like to give feedback on!

  • * How did you find/hear about us? I once had a goal of conquest. It involved all the WoW Bloggers being linked on my blogroll. Thus began my reading and continued following of this blog.

    * What made you want to subscribe to our RSS feed (if you have done so)? I haven’t done that. I’m old school. I click the website every time to read up.

    * Do you like the mix of topics, or do you/would you prefer more posts about [insert game/tag/category here]? I like the mix. I was a little thrown off at first by the SIMS stuff, but it’s your blog! It’s good that way 🙂

    * What don’t you like and why? I’m not the biggest fan of black backgrounds, but it works and it’s just fine 🙂 I wouldn’t change a thing.

    * Is there anything that would be more helpful to add on the sidebar? (Better blogroll categorization, different placement/order of items, top posts, resources, etc) I always liked less clutter so to speak. Since you’ve got your armory linked, why also have each equipment piece and profession linked as well? But I’m mostly just a minimalist. Less is more…to me 🙂

    * And… anything else you’d like to give feedback on! I always look forward to the continued story you’ve got here – the fun entries with screenshots are great too. All around great blog. It’s why I’ve continued to read it even when I wasn’t playing the game.

  • * How did you find/hear about us?
That is a DAMNED good question! At a stab, I would say BA, since that’s how I find a lot of people. Actually, scratch that (just did a search of the blog and found this “I have finally gone through and approved comments, and in the process discovered a wonderful blog in Sideshow and Syrana. If I ever get around to updating my blogroll when I get home I will get right on that!” So. Yeah. 😀

    * What made you want to subscribe to our RSS feed (if you have done so)?
The sheer awesomeness of your posts, of course! Between your great posts on locks, and the fact that you guys are metal fans, well… let’s just say you and my reader were made for each other.

    * Do you like the mix of topics, or do you/would you prefer more posts about [insert game/tag/category here]?
The mix of topics is just fine with me. I figure, you write about something I am not that interested in, I’ll just scroll over it in my reader. I am sure most other intelligent people do the same 😀 And, honestly, I read everything but the Sims stuff (although I occasionally glance through it since I used to be a Sims girl).

    * What don’t you like and why?
    N/A

    * Is there anything that would be more helpful to add on the sidebar? (Better blogroll categorization, different placement/order of items, top posts, resources, etc)
Nothing I can think of. I’d maybe move the search bar… but only maybe. Only took me a cursory glance to find it.

    * And… anything else you’d like to give feedback on!
Just reiterating – you guys are awesome!

    Much <3,
    Sar 🙂

Not sure anymore… I *think* it was a comment on one of my posts, but I could easily be mistaken.

What made you want to subscribe to our RSS feed (if you have done so)?

To keep up with the posts of course. I use feed readers on my Mac and iPhone because there is no way I could sift through all of the information going to each site individually.

Do you like the mix of topics, or do you/would you prefer more posts about [insert game/tag/category here]?

Can I hold off on answering this one for a couple of weeks? 😉

What don’t you like and why?

The lack of “Byaghro is awesome” posts!

Is there anything that would be more helpful to add on the sidebar? (Better blogroll categorization, different placement/order of items, top posts, resources, etc)

Big link to me out of the question? In all seriousness, I have gone back and compared yours to mine on more than one occasion. I like the layout.

And… anything else you’d like to give feedback on!

Can I wait on this one too?! 😉

  • I really appreciate the feedback so far, thank you! 🙂 Although, I’m wondering why Byaghro needs more time… other than to catch up on reading 😛

  • You told me the website…I didn’t have to search 😛
It’s totally AWESOME! I read everything…don’t change a thing! You are both doing a fantastic job here.

  • I’m going to kind of stream of consciousness this instead of answering your questions in order (I’m not good at working within formats, sry!)

How I found you: Through comments on my own posts, I think… or perhaps through your comments on other people’s posts. It’s hard to remember. I’m a link-clicker.

Why I added you to RSS: Your color scheme hurts my eyes and is very… um… obvious when I’m reading at work (was working when I first found you) or at school (am in school now). I nip in only when I want to comment.

What I like: general wow posts, especially those that are inter-blog commentary, the humor, the sim posts. Juuuust getting into the RP stuff, I never really was that into WoW lore until I had a breakthrough on that point recently (http://www.isheepthings.com/blog/the-long-defeat/) so I’m going back through and reading Aerissa’s whole history between classes.

What I don’t like: I don’t get into the metal related posts (even though I like some metal) I’m not really a music head. 😉 But I don’t think you should stop posting them, your blog has a unique flavor that All-WoW-All-The-Time blogs can’t always match.

Site design: well, the color scheme hurts my eyes. But it’s very warlocky, so….

  • I think I found out about your blog from a post Fulguralis made over on Killing ’em Slowly a while back, but I’m not 100% sure.

Honestly, your blog is one of the most entertaining ones out there and I think having the mix of topics makes it a little more personal, connecting the reader to the writer. I would only change one thing.. somehow get my work PC to not firewall you so I don’t have to read the blog through google reader >.>

  • Excellent, keep the feedback coming! 😀

@Abi – I’m sorry, I don’t think I can do anything about that firewall. If I could figure out how to get around that, I think there would be many happy people 😛

  • * How did you find/hear about us?
From the illustrious Gnomer. He’s where I tend to find all the good blogs. ^_^

    * What made you want to subscribe to our RSS feed (if you have done so)?
I don’t really do RSS, but I do check for new posts everyday. I’m kinda old school over here. ~_^

    * Do you like the mix of topics, or do you/would you prefer more posts about [insert game/tag/category here]?
I’m quite happy reading about whatever you have to say. It’s a nice blend of WoW stuff, personal stuff, and random other stuff that keeps me on my toes.

    * What don’t you like and why?
Can’t really think of anything. It could be the time of night and fact that I should be in bed, but this is actually one of the only blogs that I don’t skip over anything. I might not comment on everything, but I do read everything.

    * Is there anything that would be more helpful to add on the sidebar? (Better blogroll categorization, different placement/order of items, top posts, resources, etc)
I’m a fan of the top posts things on the side, as well as the recent comments thing. But that’s just a personal thing.

    * And… anything else you’d like to give feedback on!
I <3 you, Syrana! And you, too, Sideshow!

  • This is all good stuff. Much like the others, it’s the variety that keeps it good. If it was just hardcore warlock strategy and spell rotation and theorycrafting on haste vs spirit I’d be all…zzzzz. I don’t read those. Sure there’s a time for those, but you have a good thing going here.

  • Thank you, thank you 🙂

With all the feedback, the consensus seems to be – keep posting as my crazy mind deems fit.

I also am thinking of some cosmetic site changes that will be coming… soonish. The feedback helped, especially to confirm my own thoughts about a few things regarding the sidebar. 😀

Welcome

We are a family of gamers. Mom (Darcy/Syrana) and Dad (Brian/Sideshow) have been gaming for as long as they can remember back when you only had a joystick to use and saved your games to cassette tapes.

They've been gaming together since they met in 2002. Sometime after 2006, they both started playing World of Warcraft and did that for many years. They started this blog, originally called Sideshow & Syrana which has now transitioned to the new Stay-At-Home Gamers site, while keeping all of the original content.

Starting in 2010, two more gamers came along (now known as Princess Boo and Mr. X) and they are now old enough where they both enjoy playing games and watching others play games. They are both excited to have others to watch them play their favorite games. Come along with us and let's enjoy these games together!
