Before the stalker case evidence is presented to you (Cue: “Whooo are you? Whowho whowho”) I'd like to encourage you to listen to the Epic Dwarven Blogger Podcast #9, if you did not listen to it live on Wednesday night.  I had a blast being on the show (despite evil butterflies), and you'll probably get a laugh out of my floundering.  (By the way, the plug at the end about the Child's Play charity auction… it's through The Hunting Lodge, not Hunter's >.<)  And that's ok! Evil warlock, I may be… but laughter is contagious.  The easier for me to corrupt you with.  *nodnod*  That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.  Of course, if you have not listened to Davlin and Nexultor before, be sure to check out the other podcasts too!

Now, I present to you….

The Case of the (n00b) Stalker

Opening statement by Syrana:

I think…I think I'm being followed.  I'm not sure if it is by a fan or how they found me.  But, I keep getting these random whispers.  At first, I didn't think much of it, but over the past month, I've started screenshotting preserving them for evidence.  I hadn't been certain if they were all from the same person, but they appear to be.  They aren't creepy whispers… just… odd.  *looks puzzled*  Well, here, let me show you.  The evidence should speak for itself.

Closing statement by Syrana:

What say you, ladies and gentlemen of the peanut gallery? Stalker? Noob? Case of mistaken identity? We may never know…. (names have been blurred to protect the defendant and other innocents).

  • I have had strange whispers when I have been on my DK and my mage. They either want help, which I gladly give if I am able and they are courteous, or want to be portaled (most are glad to pay a small fee…a few have been pains and didn’t want to pay anything…guess who gets portaled!) I’ve even been asked to tank instances I can’t even get into..which I point out politely to the inquirer. One random whisperer has even become a friend…lol…we have helped each other with group quests.

  • They might keep whispering you since you’ve been nice to them. I have picked up a few on some of my toons. They were harmless. In my case they asked about the class I was playing.

In fact one had a high level toon that invited me to his guild raids once my toon hit 80. He was the Guild leader.

The others… well we eventually ran instances together. 🙂

    Completely off topic but…
Deimonia, my Affliction Warlock, hit 60. Can I just say that I love Haunt! 😉 I really haven’t had too much time to play, so busy in the real world but I love my little Warlock. I wish I could play her more. 🙁

  • @Keli – Sometimes it just makes you wonder how they decided it was you they were going to whisper.

@Moondancer – I hadn’t really thought about that… that they keep whispering me because I have been nice each time. It did strike me as interesting though xD

And I’m glad you are loving affliction for Deimonia! Haunt is pretty sweet, indeed. *nodnod*

  • This gives me an idea of what kind of fun I can get in to the next time I drink and play WoW..

    /who Dalaran
    *sorts by class*
    /roll 1-XXX
    *whisper random things*

But yes.. total stalker.. tell them you’re a 40 year old man next time and it’ll stop, I promise.

  • Tell em to things like:
If you hit Alt-F4 you it’ll help!
    or
Yes I can Buff Axes, wait for me on top of the bank in Org /ignore

Maybe then they’ll leave you alone

  • lol, while the amusing suggestions are hilarious in their own right, I’ve had this exact situation occur.

I honestly think that due to answering the questions honestly at first, I was immediately ‘friended’. Thus, when another question would arise I was the one they asked.

Eventually this got to me putting said person on ignore as I can only translate so many lines like that before I begin to get impatient and risk being horribly rude.

Instead of that, I just avoided it all togehter with a /ignore! heh

But seriously…I was nice as long as I could be. *serious nod*

  • So I think the overall verdict is that I shouldn’t be so nice 😛 jk… I’ll be sure to keep you updated if he strikes again!

  • I feel for you, dear. I had a very disturbing conversation with someone on my server just the other day. Turns out it was a total DB that I’d previously reported for his /tradefilth… but I did it on a different toon!

Now, he could have googled me, found my blog, and discovered the names of my alts. Or he could have just gotten lucky by choosing me for his random target that day. I dunno, and I’m not asking. I did, however, take a lot of screenies of the conversation, just in case. : )

Welcome

We are a family of gamers. Mom (Darcy/Syrana) and Dad (Brian/Sideshow) have been gaming for as long as they can remember back when you only had a joystick to use and saved your games to cassette tapes.

They've been gaming together since they met in 2002. Sometime after 2006, they both started playing World of Warcraft and did that for many years. They started this blog, originally called Sideshow & Syrana which has now transitioned to the new Stay-At-Home Gamers site, while keeping all of the original content.

Starting in 2010, two more gamers came along (now known as Princess Boo and Mr. X) and they are now old enough where they both enjoy playing games and watching others play games. They are both excited to have others to watch them play their favorite games. Come along with us and let's enjoy these games together!
